The Microcomputer Chess Championship took place from September 5 to 7, 1980, in the Le Baron Hotel [2], San Jose, California . The tournament was organized by George Koltanowski, and was won by Champion Sensory Challenger (CSC), at that time the newest chess product from Fidelity Electronics, but not yet on the market. The winning unit was housed in a special attache case which was handcuffed to the wrist of Mike Samole, and which he carried in and out of the playing hall every day and night of the three-day affair. [3]. Up to 100 spectators at a time watched the drama unfold, but the outstanding spectator was Pierre Nolot to report for four French magazines, two chess and two computer magazines [4].
