Panel Discussion
On the morning of the last day of the tournament the authors of the programs met for a panel discussion [6]. Professor Mittman served as moderator. Other members of the panel were David Levy, Jim Gillogly, Al Zobrist, George Arnold, Franklin Ceruti, David Slate, Ed Kozdrowicki, and Monty Newborn. The panel arrived a few conclusions:
- a need for including algorithms controlling long-range strategy was emphasized
- there was interest in the USC approach
- self-learning was confirmed as being a long way off. Arthur Samuel was in the audience and participated actively in the discussion.
