Innovation Life Cycle [1]

Innovation,
a chess program by Jeff Mallett, written in C. Innovation played the WMCCC 1991 in Vancouver, Canada, the ACM 1993, and as Innovation II, running on an PowerPC Mac, the ACM 1994 [2]. Innovation was incorporated in commercial chess teaching products such as Maurice Ashley Teaches Chess [3], and Dr. Schiller's Chess Game & How to Play Chess [4].

Description

from Don Beal's WMCCC 1991 report [5] :

Written by Jeff Mallett, a newcomer to the computer-chess scene, it has been in full-time development for a year. It has some unusual features which include: not using iterative deepening, never evaluate statically - obtaining all evaluation scores by incremental changes as moves are made, only looking at newly available moves in the final stages of the quiescence search, and estimating an "attack factor" distinct from the regular evaluation.
