Computer Chess Activities
The ACM hosted the first major chess tournament for computers, from the 1st United States Computer Chess Championship 1970, further called North American Computer Chess Championship until 1994. The ACM was sponsor of the Garry Kasparov versus Deep Blue matches in 1996 and 1997. However, the ACM tournaments were first canceled in 1995 and finally discontinued after Kasparov's defeat.
