William Tunstall-Pedoe [1]

William Tunstall-Pedoe,
a British computer scientist, AI entrepreneur, startup mentor, angel investor and founder of Evi, formerly True Knowledge, which specializes in knowledge base and semantic search engine software. In October 2012, Evi was acquired by Amazon [2], its technology and team became a key part of Amazon Alexa [3] [4].

Computer Chess

William Tunstall-Pedoe graduated from University of Cambridge in 1991 - he wrote a CST Part II Dissertation describing ACPP, his advanced chess playing program, which was research vehicle in genetic algorithms and automated tuning of evaluation weights and search parameters, as elaborated in his ICCA Journal paper [5]. In 1992/93 he developed a complete commercial chess-playing program from scratch including a high quality chess engine, animated graphics, sound effects and a full state-of-the-art user interface. The product was marketed as Cyber Chess and published by The Fourth Dimension [6].

AI Software

From 1988 Tunstall-Pedoe developed and marketed various AI related software, most notably Anagram Genius [7] and since 1996 ,Crossword Maestro [8] , a software which solves cryptic crossword clues and explains in plain English how the clues work.
