Alexander (Alex) van Tiggelen, (July 18, 1953 - September 19, 2001 [1] [2])
was a Dutch computer scientist, computer chess programmer and self-employed consultant. He was author of TRS-80 chess program Schaak written in Z80 assembly, which played the DOCCC 1985, DOCCC 1986 and DOCCC 1987.
In the early 90s, for the purpose of the Automatically Learning Expert System Alexs, he was affiliated as an individual research worker to the University of Limburg in Maastricht, where he worked with Jaap van den Herik, and published on Learning and Automated Tuning in computer chess.
Alexs played chess at the DOCCC 1996 and DOCCC 1998 respectively, and a time-served version was commercially available through Gambit-Soft [3].
