Donald H. Mitchell,
an American psychologist and M.Sc. from the Department of Psychology, Northwestern University. In his 1984 Master thesis Using Features to Evaluate Positions in Experts' and Novices' Othello Games, he labels Othello positions with the game result in the form of the disc difference and performs a linear regression in evaluation tuning, as mentioned by Michael Buro [1] [2].
