Christopher F. (Chris) Chabris,
an American psychologist, neuroscientist, computer scientist, USCF chess master, chess writer and columnist.
He is known as co-author along with Daniel Simons of the book The Invisible Gorilla published in 2010 [2]. This title of this book refers to an earlier research project of Chabris and Simons revealing that people who are focused on one thing can easily overlook something else, awarded with an Ig Nobel Prize [3].
Christopher Chabris received his B.A. in computer science and Ph.D. in psychology from Harvard University, where he was also a lecturer and research associate for many years, and is currently assistant professor of psychology at Union College in Schenectady, New York, adjunct assistant professor of Neurology at Albany Medical College Center for Collective Intelligence [4]. His research interests focuses on how people differ from one another in mental abilities and patterns of behavior, and how cognitive illusions affect our decisions. As computer science student at Harvard in the late 80s, when he was rated among the top 50 chess players in the U.S. under 21 years of age with an USCF rating of 2206 [5], he wrote on AI with Turbo Pascal, and reported on computer chess tournaments [6].
