Harald Lüßen,
a German software developer, computer chess programmer and author of the WinBoard compliant chess engine Elephant [1], which is known for bitboard comparisons in sliding piece attacks [2]. During the late 80s, Harald already wrote two private chess programs, one in GFA-Basic, and the second one in C for the Atari ST. After more than 10 years "out of business", he found bitboard explanations in the German magazine Computerschach und Spiele, and started his work on Elephant in August 2002. He proposed Exploding Bitboards [3] and elaborated on Michael Sherwin's Sherwin Bitboards [4].
