Hans Zellner,
a German programmer involved in the early development and compression of endgame tablebases, making three, four and even five piece endgames such as KRK (July 1985), KQK (September 1985), KPK (November 1985), KBBK (July 1986), KBNK, KQKR, and KBBKN available for home-computers, the three piece endgames and KBBK already on a Commodore 64 [1] [2]. He developed a program which perfectly played KQKR to run on an Atari ST [3], a five-piece endgame, KBBKN had to be stored on 59 floppy disks [4].
