Lago d'Averno [1]

Averno,
a Chess Engine Communication Protocol aka WinBoard compatible chess engine by José Carlos Martínez Galán written in C++ [2]. The development started in 1999, using a simple 8x8 Board representation (board[64]) [3], later evolving to 0x88 [4]. Averno played the ten first CCT Tournaments from 2000 to 2008.

Etymology

Lago d'Averno

The name Averno refers to Lake Avernus (Lago d'Averno) in the Avernus crate near Naples, that the Romans mythologized as the entrance to the underworld or hell.
