Treebeard,
a multi-platform, commercial chess program developed by Jeff Rollason and Didzis Cirulis. Treebeard, an AI Factory product, applies a complex swapping off material analyzer (SOMA) of the whole board, also considering pins and ties to defend against captures, forks and even mate threats, similar as described in Rollason's SUPER-SOMA approach for Shogi [2], which guides a probability-based tree search. Treebeard comes with an optional 3D Board as version of Chess for the PC, and is currently the chess engine used by Microsoft for their MSN Chess [3] [4]. Further, Treebeard is incorporated in AI Factory's Chess Free for Android [5].
