Patrice Duhamel,
a French game and chess programmer, and author of the Chess Engine Communication Protocol and UCI compliant chess engine Cheese, first released in November 2007 [1]. He started the work on Cheese in 2006, initially for the purpose of displaying a chess game on a 3D board, and later continued with the game AI, the board representation, in particular bitboards, search algorithms and evaluation [2].
