Mark J. Sturman,
an American chess player [2] , chess and computer chess researcher, international chess arbiter and USCF local tournament director of North Carolina [3] . In his 1995 Computer Chess Reports article Beware The Bishop Pair, he elaborated on the relative strength of bishop versus knight with special mention of the bishop pair dependent on other piece configurations and the number of pawns on each side, mining a database of over 350,000 games. A revised version further covering two rooks versus queen was published in the ICCA Journal, Vol. 19, No. 2.
