Linda Scherzer, ACM 1984 [1]

Linda Scherzer,
an American computer scientist, entrepreneur, along with Tony Scherzer former chess programmer and author of Bebe, a chess program and machine build around their company's SYS-10, Inc., custom mini- and mainframe processors based on bit slice technology. Bebe played almost all major tournaments in the 80s, and was one of the strongest chess machines of its time. Linda Scherzer in an 1984 interview on the role of Bebe and SYS-10, Inc. [2] : "We justify this as our research and development department. We try out the firmware in Bebe, then design it for commercial products". After Tony Scherzer's early death in January 1995 [3] , the work on Bebe discontinued, while SYS-10, Inc. continued, and is now a company providing custom software applications located in South Elgin, Illinois [4] , owned by Linda Scherzer since 1978 [5] .
