Johann Joseph (Hans) Kmoch (July 25, 1894 – February 13, 1973)
was an Austrian-Dutch-American International Master of over the board chess, writer of Pawn Power in Chess (German Die Kunst der Bauernführung) and other chess books. Many pawn structure terms used in chess and computer chess are based on neologisms defined in Kmoch's famous book [2].
