Fritz Königshofer ~ 1980 [1]

Fritz Königshofer,
an Austrian American genealogist, Burgenland Bunch staff member [2] and editor of the BB newsletter [3], Ph.D. in applied mathematics from University of Graz, computer scientist [4], and early computer chess programmer. While affiliated with the computer center Rechenzentrum Graz in the 70s [5], along with Gerhard Wolf, Fritz Königshofer co-authored the mainframe chess program Frantz, which competed at the 1st World Computer Chess Championship, 1974 in Stockholm [6] [7]. In 1981, Fritz Königshofer moved to the US, working as an information technology and network specialist at the World Bank in Washington, D.C., specializing in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and began genealogy in 1994 [8].

Weather Forecasting

In an interview, Austrian writer Gerhard Roth, in the early 70s programmer at Rechenzentrum Graz and colleague and friend, mentions Königshofer's role concerning his writing career, and characterizes Fritz Königshofer as mathematical genius [9] [10], who in the late 70s had developed a six day weather forecasting model at the European Center for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), Reading, UK [11].
