Connected Pawns,
two or more pawns on adjacent files - as duo or phalanx on the same rank, mutually protecting their stop squares - or either as defending or defended member of a pawn chain. Stockfish gives a connected pawn bonus based on the rank of the phalanx or defending pawn .
