Confucius,
a chess program by Martin Anders and Hinrich Büker [2], developed in 1996 when the authors were graduate students at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. Confucius played the IPCCC 1997, running on a Sun Ultrasparc [3].

Etymology

In 1994, both authors spent half a year in Shanghai as exchange students, which gave the inspiration to name the engine after the famous Chinese philosopher [4].
