Blockade,
a chess term concerning the mobility of pawns and pieces, most commonly used in the context of blockade of stop or telestop squares of passed pawns by minor pieces as elaborated by Aron Nimzowitsch in The Blockade [1] and My System (first restrain, next blockade, lastly destroy) [2].

  • A Block (blockade) is a term for interrupting the attacking ray of a sliding piece, such as blocking a distant check by interposing a pawn or piece
  • The Blockage (blockade) refers to pawn, piece and king placement, typically in late endgames or pawn endgames which prevents the enemy king or pieces to attack own pawns
  • The Blockade also refers to a chess tactics where a decoy sacrifice is conducted to decisively reduce the mobility of pieces or king as start of a combination
