On the morning of the last day of the tournament the authors of the programs met for a panel discussion <ref>[[Monroe Newborn]] ('''1975'''). ''Computer Chess''. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_Press Academic Press]<br/>Chapter VII. The Third United States Computer Chess Championship, p. 98</ref>. [[Ben Mittman|Professor Mittman]] served as moderator. Other members of the panel were [[David Levy]], [[James Gillogly|Jim Gillogly]], [[Albert Zobrist|Al Zobrist]], [[George Arnold]], [[Franklin D. Ceruti|Franklin Ceruti]], [[David Slate]], [[Ed Kozdrowicki]], and [[Monroe Newborn|Monty Newborn]]. The panel arrived a few conclusions:
# a need for including algorithms controlling long-range [[Strategy|strategy]] was emphasized
# there was interest in the [[USC CP|USC]] approach
# [[Learning|self-learning]] was confirmed as being a long way off. [[Arthur Samuel]] was in the audience and participated actively in the discussion.
